Sorry for the late blog post, I was thoroughly chastised last night by a very drunk Frenchman for working on my blog post while at dinner. Sometimes communal tables are great and sometimes, not so much!
It was another rainy day but, luckily, we had already reserved our spot in the children's section of La Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie - a great science museum just on the north eastern edge of the city. They let in small groups for 90-minute sessions which makes the whole experience so much more civilized - the D'Orsay should consider doing that!
After an expensive detour through the museum gift shop, we headed home and were glad to see the sun peaking out in time for date night. Knowing that we had a late night ahead of us, we first stopped at Angelina's patisserie and tea room for a little pick-me-up. Unfortunately, Jack got their famous hot chocolate which so thoroughly caffeinated him that he was vibrating for the rest of the evening. Next we wandered through the lively streets of St. Germain des Pres. Among lots of other things, we found a small nook of a bookstore run by a Canadian who had remade his life in Paris. I could spend then rest of our vacation in the great little bookstore just browsing his eclectic collection! We headed over to Sainte-Chapelle for a concert - Vivaldi's Four Seasons plus a little Mozart and a little Bach. There were 5 female performers and they all played their little hearts out - it was fantastic! Jack claims it was the best classical music concert he's ever seen but that may have been the hot chocolate talking. From there, we walked the couple miles to our restaurant - L'ami Jean. We arrived a few minutes late for our 10 pm reservation and the place was packed. We didn't even get seated until 11:00! The food was rustic and satisfying and the company at our communal table was entertaining! On our way home, we saw other late-night revelers - what's up with these guys - don't they know that Tuesday is a school night! It was a late night for us and, unfortunately, the children don't sleep in - even on vacation!
