I awoke at 7:00 am to the most glorious discovery this morning - Natalie slept through the night! I got my first full night's sleep of this trip and feel ready for anything! Although the weather called for rain (again) the sky looked promising so we set off for the beach - Paris Plages actually. The roads along the right bank of the seine are closed to traffic for one month every summer and transformed into a seaside resort complete with sandy beaches, deckchairs, ice cream sellers, and concerts for locals and tourists alike. When I first read about it, I thought it would be kind of depressing but when we rolled up this morning - it was actually really lovely. With the make-shift sand toys I pilfered from the apartment, the kids dug and built and generally occupied themselves while we lounged and enjoyed the sunshine and people watching. After a picnic lunch and an ice cream cone, we headed home to decorate the apartment for Natalie's 1/2 birthday tomorrow.
Jack and I returned to the Musee Les Arts Décoratifs to continue our survey-level education on the history of interior design. It was fascinating and really inspired us to live in a home that doesn't look like it was decorated by (and then inhabited by) a bunch of frat boys! We'll see if that lasts ...
After that, we moved over to the Louvre for our 3rd visit of this trip. We are trying to work our way through this behemoth a little bit at a time. Today, we stuck with Egyptian Antiquities but, admittedly, were a little museum-ed out by the time we wended our way back to the pyramid. We wandered just a few blocks to La Cordonnerie to join a couple for dinner who we'd met last week and who are at the tail end of their year in Paris. We enjoyed both the company and the food - all in all a very satisfying evening.
