Can we go now - I'm tired of looking at naked people

Transcript of actual conversation this morning, just after we left the apartment:

Beverley: What is that on my face? I feel something on my face.
Jack: I don't see anything.
Beverley: Wait, I think it's sunshine...

We got a welcome break from the rain while we walked to the Musee d'Orsay this morning. Once there, we got the children's guide to the museum and, since it was all in French, we told the girls it was a scavenger hunt and the winner got a chocolate gateau. We enjoyed spending time with them trying to find the pieces and then discussing them once we did. They pooped out quickly though - and the ever-growing crowd started to get to us too so we took our leave when Jacqui asked: 'Can we go now? I'm getting tired of looking at naked people.'

On the way home, we rewarded the girls with a stop at the playground in the Tulleries and a bounce on the trampolines - part of the 'midway' that pops up along the west side of the Tulleries each summer.

We left early for date night and started things off with a little sugar and caffeine boost at Cafe Pouchkine - a Russian-style tea room - where we enjoyed a millefeuille, a Rose du Tsar and a cafe au lait. Next stop was our second run at the Louvre. We focussed this time on renaissance sculpture and decorative arts. I really need to brush up on my Greek mythology in order to fully appreciate and understand these sculptures. My years of sunday school prepared me well for bringing context to the art of the middle ages but P.E.C.I. really let me down on Zeus et al.

Afterwards, we walked to Pierre Gagnaire - our second 3-Michelin starred restaurant on this trip. Tonight marks the half-way point of our visit to Paris so we decided to blow it out with another tasting menu. The meal was both innovative and satisfying - a difficult balance to strike. After 3 hours and 25 courses, our tastebuds are exhausted but we are feeling fat and happy and ready for whatever adventures tomorrow may bring.
